Last Day in Dominican Republic

This is our last day in the Dominican Republic, tomorrow we island hop and end up in Jamaica. The picture is a typical street. Note all the power lines, some get electrocuted when they start to drag or when they go up the pool and transfer the power from one building to another.

This was a great day, we had a one-on-one with Benny Lilly, the area welfare manager. He is great and has set up some very good training for us here. We sat in on an area perpetual education fund meeting chaired by Elder Coleman a councilor in the Area Presidency. We met Elder Vinaz, the Area President and Elder Anderson, a Counselor in the Area President. Watch General Conference - Elder Vinaz and Elder Anderson are going to speak. We talked more today about Haiti than any previous day. The Church is winding up emergency efforts and are now building some transitional housing which will consist of wood frames covered in tarp material. They are also starting employment training and social work. It is so impressive to see how the stake presidents in Haiti are taking the preisthood lead for care, welfare and general needs. One of the stake presidents is only 29 years old. He went around on a motorcycle checking on all the members and missionaries.


We are now trained on how to spend money on our projects. Then the treat of all treats, we were able to attend a session at the Dominican Republic Temple. Then the last dinner by the ocean. We leave at 4:45 am for the airport. See you all mon in Jamaica.
